Regarding the article “Go to jail”.It’s a fact that revisionists are punished by law in many European countries.The question is:where does my freedom of speech stop and where does the need not to hurt people that have been hatred,chased and killed for their religion since 700BC (Babylon),mostly by the Catholic church and who have managed to survive thanks to their binding (‘religo’ in Latin) start?If you insult the President of a country or worse,a monarch,you to jail too.So why would the law be different if you insult (even if you think you’re just telling the truth) a whole population?I’m not pro or against revisionism,but sensibility,the other person’s feelings,must be taken into account at all times.It’s called respect.
These words were written by Marianne Williamson in her book, A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles, Harper Collins, 1992 (Chapter 7, Section 3, Pg. 190-191). It is often found on the Internet incorrectly credited to Nelson Mandela because the South African statesman, having read Ms Williamson’s work, decided these words would inspire his countrymen and women and so he included them in his Inauguration Speech in 1994.
Perhaps Mr Mandela should be remembered for: “Only free men can negotiate; prisoners cannot enter into contracts. Your freedom and mine cannot be separated”, which he said when refusing to bargain for freedom after 21 years in prison, as quoted in TIME (25 February 1985).
I thought this was part of Nelson Mandela’s inauguration speech. DId Marianne Williamson quote him?
I had printed this quote out years ago, taped it to my bathroom mirror, and realized my deepest fear. How true these words ring for so many.
